What is Vocational training or Skill Development Training?

Skill Development is the process of gaining knowledge and abilities in order to perform certain set of tasks which otherwise is not possible by conventional manpower.

Skills might vary from operating an Air Conditioning Unit to handling guest queries in a hotel reception.

The Government of India has repeatedly urged the youths to undergo industry relevant skill training of their choice and start their career in the respective sector.

In present day scenario, industries and companies are constantly looking for skilled manpower and assess candidates in the interviews based on their skillsets to undertake the responsibilities of the tasks aligned with the job rather than training the manpower from the scratch.

Apart from Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Government/Public Sector Untertaking (PSU) Sponsored Courses, industries themselves often sponsor such courses pertaining to their requirements.

Skilling can be of three types:

  1. Skilling: It involves skilling a fresher who has minimal knowledge about the sector to make them employable in the particular industry.
  2. Up-skilling: It involves upgrading your knowledge on the existing role to execute tasks in a more efficient way and take greater responsibilities.
  3. Re-skilling: It involves acquiring entirely new skills to shift to a new role or the existing methods of executing the tasks have become obsolete.
